Palladium's "Revere" Wins Business Green Nature-Based Project of the Year

Members of the Revere team accept the award.

Revere’s mission to restore nature across some of the UK’s best-loved landscapes was recognised at the 2022 Business Green Leaders Awards (BGLA) in London when the innovative venture was awarded Nature-based Project of the Year.

Revere, a partnership between Palladium and UK National Parks that makes it possible to restore natural habitats with private capital launched October of 2021 but its ambitious plans have already made an impact with green industry experts.

“There were so many great projects in this category,” said the BGLA judges. “But the judges were won over by the hugely ambitious and appropriately named Revere Project with its vision to mobilise much needed investment in protecting and restoring nature across our treasured national parks.”
In a short space of time, the team behind the project have made huge progress towards finding solutions to tackle the biodiversity crisis in the parks at the scale and pace that is needed, through the sale of ecosystem services.

“Our mission is to deliver solutions that will make a real difference, using a combination of private and public finance to restore nature in our National Parks,” explained Jose Maria Ortiz, Palladium Managing Director.

“It is critical that we do something before it’s too late. The progress that we have already made is a testament to the people involved – both colleagues and stakeholders - who are committed to finding ways to reverse the biggest environmental challenge of our lifetime. And for this to be recognised by industry peers at such an early stage of the project is extremely rewarding.”

Having already secured financial backing from major investors including Santander UK and the Estée Lauder Companies UK & Ireland, Revere is working with landowners and farmers to design nature restoration initiatives that will improve the biodiversity in the UK’s 15 National Parks.

“As a Founding Partner for National Parks UK ‘ Net Zero with Nature’ initiative, we’re proud to be supporting National Parks UK and Palladium with Revere,” added Fermin Martinez de Hurtado, Head of Sustainability and Responsible Banking, Santander UK.

From designing and implementing projects to restore huge swathes of degraded peatland that will seal off greenhouse gas emissions in Cairngorns National Park, to planning woodland creation models that will help sequester carbon and mitigate flood risk in the North York Moors National Park, this is just the beginning of Revere’s mission.

The award was announced on the 22 June event at The Brewery in London where over 400 top business leaders joined investors, campaigners, and environmental experts, including Shadow Secretary of State for Climate Change and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, to recognise the "truly inspiring" efforts of green businesses.
