Barry Smith

Director, Climate

Barry has over 15 years’ experience specialising in climate policy and governance, public climate finance for adaptation, MEL and working across different governance scales from the global to the local. He has extensive experience of multilateral processes and institutions including UNFCCC negotiations, and working with and for multilateral and bilateral climate finance providers and intermediaries including the GCF, the Global Commission on Adaptation, World Bank, African Development Bank and UN agencies such as UNECA, FCDO and Norad. He has considerable experience of capacity building with local actors across Africa and South-East Asia, working towards locally-led climate action and community empowerment, as well as extensive experience of policy processes across sectors with national governments. He has an LLM (Distinction) in International Climate Change and Environmental Law from Edinburgh Law School, Edinburgh University.
